Have your lawn looking it's best this spring and into the summer!

Step #1 - Rake the Yard
The first step you should take to improving your lawn is to rake away any debris or dead grass that may be left over from the winter.
Step #2 - Aerate the Soil
By aerating the soil, you allow more air, water, and nutrients to reach the grassroots and promote growth. It is important to aerate clay soils or highly trafficked parts of the lawn once a year.
Step #3 - Add Seed to Bare Spots
The best time to add seed is early spring and early fall. It is best to add seed to soil that is between 5.8 and7.2 acidity. If your soil is too acidic try adding a lime application. The pH of your soil can change overtime. It is important to test your soil before making decisions for reseeding.
Tip: Seeding in the spring requires more water and care. Seeding in the fall requires less attention.
Step #4 - Water, Water, Water
You should water your lawn about 1 inch per week. This includes any rain expected for the week. To prevent evaporation as the days become hotter, it is recommended to water your lawn before 10 am. If the blades of grass are dull in color or take a while to bounce back when you step on them, it is a good sign that it needs water.
Step #5- Mow Your Grass When Needed
Before your first cut, make sure the blades are sharpened on your lawn mower. Be sure to check other maintenance necessities like changing the oil, using fresh gas, changing the air filter, or changing spark plugs. Avoid cutting the grass too low. This can encourage weeds to germinate. It is best to cut the top 1/3 of the grass. Also, if you are not using a bag to collect the clippings as you mow, use a rake to remove or separate any grass clumps left on your lawn. Follow these lawn tips to keep your grass greener throughout the season! Staying on top of your lawn care regiment can help you safe time and effort later in the year.
